Description:

Although only the library remains today, in the 18th century there used to be a great monasterial complex - the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève - next to the Church of Saint-Etienne du Mont in Paris. The monastery was destroyed to make space for the construction of the Panthéon and Rue Clovis. The architect Bourla, who was tasked with its demolition, made a great number of sketches and organized many excavations in the crypt, where a number of sarcophagi were discovered. His son Alexandre, who had helped out on the site as a child, worked on the drawings that illustrated the archaeological reports.
