Description:

The Marquis of Cerralbo and his family visited Istanbul in 1889, and nowadays the Cerralbo Museum holds an interesting variety of pieces bought and collected as souvenirs from the family trip. When visiting a foreign country or city, being portraited by a famous photographer of studio was indispensable. In this case the photographers are the world-renowned Armenian Abdullah Frères, Photographes de S. M. I. le Sultan. This albumen portrait of Inocencia Serrano y Cerver, Marquise of Cerralbo, and her daughter Amelia del Valle y Serrano is delicious thanks to the typical Turkish costume, the apparently easy pose and the scenography and the absolute harmony with the idea of aesthetic orientalism.
